A decal set from the Czech manufacturer AML with Soviet national insignia, the red stars, in 1:48 scale. The first part of the line is a practical help for anyone who builds Soviet equipment: the stars from boxed decals tend to be the first thing to run out, and a stand-alone sheet of national insignia always comes in useful as a reserve.
The red star was the national insignia of the Soviet Air Force from its beginnings. During the Second World War its form developed, from a plain red star through variants with a thin outline up to the later stars with a bold white and red outline. It was placed on the wings, the fuselage and the vertical tail, with the size and the position differing according to the aircraft type and the period.
With national insignia symmetry is the key: before applying them, measure the position of the stars on both halves of the wing and mark it with a piece of masking tape. Settle the decals on a gloss base and blot them with a soft cloth over a dry paper tissue so that no water stays under the film. Once dry, coat the whole over.
This is a stand-alone decal set; the kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
