The cast resin part represents the external reconnaissance pod designated as the EADS GAF Recce Pod. The set serves to fit out a finished plastic model of an aircraft that carried such a pod under the fuselage or under the wing. It is not a model of an airplane; in the package you will find only the accessory itself, with no carrier and no aircraft. The exact contents of the package and the number of pieces are stated on the box.
Reconnaissance pods are technical equipment in an external casing: they carry camera equipment and its power supply, so an aircraft can fulfill a reconnaissance task with no change to the airframe structure. For a modeler it is a detail that unambiguously determines the configuration of the machine, since without the pod the same model looks as if it were in a different role. The shape of the casing, its windows and the mating surface to the pylon are in plastic kits either simplified or missing altogether.
First wash the part in lukewarm water with a little detergent, as residues of the mold release agent would otherwise worsen the adhesion of the paint. Cut the casting block off with a fine-toothed saw and sand the remainder down; sand resin strictly wet, as the dust from it must not be inhaled. We recommend working over a bowl of water, using eye protection and wiping the bench down with a damp cloth after work rather than blowing it off. The pod is a fairly large part, so it is easy to hold: glue it onto a stick pushed into the hole left by the casting block and turn it while spraying. It is glued to the model with cyanoacrylate glue, ideally only after both parts have been painted separately.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
