This is not an aircraft model but a separate accessory for one. On the real aircraft the boarding ladder is hooked over the edge of the cockpit and the pilot climbs up it; on a model it plays two roles at once. First, it gives the viewer a size comparison, so the machine stops looking like a plastic toy and starts to look genuinely large. Second, it brings a story into the scene, because a hooked-on ladder means the aircraft has just landed or is about to take off. It is an accessory of resin and plastic for aircraft in 1:48 scale.
The F-100 Super Sabre was an American single-engine jet fighter of the 1950s, the first American production machine able to hold supersonic speed in level flight. Its characteristic features are the oval nose air intake, strongly swept wings and a low-set tail surface. It served in several versions, single-seat and two-seat trainers alike, and was used by the air forces of several other countries as well. The ground crew reached the machine by exactly this hooked-on ladder, which was taken away before takeoff.
First separate the parts carefully from the casting block with a saw or a cutter and level the faces. Washing them in lukewarm water with detergent and letting them dry works best, as paint does not hold on a greasy surface. It is bonded with super glue; ordinary cement for polystyrene does not work here. Spray a coat of primer before painting. Ladders are worn in service, so a metal shade showing through on the edges of the steps and a fine patina around the fittings work well. When you seat it on the model, make sure the ladder stands upright and sits against the edge of the cockpit, otherwise the whole scene looks crooked.
