This plastic kit from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi captures the F-15J fighter in the finish of machine number 908 of the JASDF tactical fighter training squadron. Aggressor machines wear deliberately different, often experimental camouflage schemes so as to represent the opponent convincingly in training air combat — the model therefore offers an Eagle in a form you will not see in ordinary units.
The F-15J is the Japanese variant of the American F-15 Eagle fighter, built under license by Mitsubishi. Since the 1980s it has formed the backbone of Japanese air defense and is among the most widespread types of the JASDF. The twin-engine machine with an excellent thrust-to-weight ratio was designed to win air superiority. The tactical fighter training squadron uses Eagle machines to train other units against an opponent who flies differently, and its aircraft therefore change their conspicuous camouflage patterns regularly.
Start the build with the cockpit and the landing gear bays, which you paint before closing the fuselage. The aggressor camouflage with its soft transitions comes out best when sprayed with an airbrush — it helps to sketch the pattern out in pencil first. Pick out the engine nozzles with metallic shades and a fine wash, and bring out the panel lines with a dark shade. Lay the decals on a gloss base and fix them with varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
