New Ware 1:48 F-35A Lightning II, BASIC mask set is a set of self-adhesive die-cut masks in kabuki paper, not a kit. It serves for precise spraying of the canopy framing and of other areas of the model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not an aircraft model but a set of painting masks from the Czech manufacturer New Ware. The masks are cut from so-called kabuki paper, that is from a thin Japanese adhesive tape with very fine fibers. It conforms well to a curved surface, holds even on the edges of the frames and does not pull dried paint off when removed. The set carries the BASIC designation, the entry level in the graded New Ware range; the extent of the parts in this package is stated on the box of the set.
Canopy framing painted with a brush is the most common reason why an otherwise well-built model looks amateurish. A hand-painted line never keeps a constant width and the paint runs under the edge. A pre-cut mask removes that problem, because its shape matches the geometry of a specific kit. Besides the glazing, masks are also used on wheel hubs and tires, where the boundary between rubber and hub is hard to keep steady by hand.
The F-35A Lightning II is an American single-engine multirole fifth-generation combat aircraft with conventional takeoff and landing. The A version is the land-based variant for the US Air Force, as distinct from the B version with short takeoff and vertical landing and the C version adapted for aircraft carriers. The design is driven by the aim of a low radar signature, with internal weapons bays and carefully worked shaping of panels and edges. The division of the surface panels is exactly the rewarding subject on a model, because it shows up strongly in the painting.
The masks are an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model in their own right. The kit and the paints are not included in the package.
