Injection-molded plastic kit of the British carrier-borne torpedo bomber Fairey Albacore in 1:48 scale from Trumpeter. It is a biplane; the box contains parts in gray plastic, a photo-etched part, clear plastic and a decal sheet, and we recommend checking the exact contents against the sheet in the box.
The Albacore was a British carrier-borne torpedo bomber of the Fleet Air Arm in the Second World War, created as the successor to the older Fairey Swordfish biplane. It was a biplane as well, powered by a Bristol Taurus radial engine, with an enclosed cockpit for a crew of three. It carried a torpedo or bombs and was deployed against surface targets, for patrol work and for target illumination. Although it was meant to replace the Swordfish, it was itself withdrawn from service earlier than its predecessor.
Paint and fit the cockpit and the interior before closing up the fuselage. On a biplane the accurate alignment of the interplane struts and the subsequent bracing wires are the key step, so count on tensioning the wires only once the flying surfaces are joined, and on patiently setting up the geometry of the wings. Cover the glazing with masks, use liquid cement on the plastic joints, treat the surface with a primer and apply the paints with an airbrush. Fit the torpedo or the bombs last.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
