Photo-etched grilles for the Sd.Kfz. 182 King Tiger with the Henschel turret in 1:48 scale from Aber. Metal mesh replaces the solid plastic grilles on the engine deck.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a photo-etched metal set in 1:48 scale from the Polish maker Aber, intended for models of the Sd.Kfz. 182 King Tiger heavy tank in the variant with the later production Henschel turret. It holds the grilles of the cooling and intake openings at the rear of the hull. It is not a model of the tank but a detail accessory for improving one.
The Tiger II, commonly called the King Tiger, was the heaviest German tank to see series service in the Second World War. The Henschel turret, with a flat front and no curved front wall, replaced the early turret and was fitted to the great majority of the machines built. The engine deck had large cooling openings covered by fine metal grilles, which injection-molded plastic can imitate only as a solid, engraved surface.
Cut out or sand away the blanked-off plastic grilles and level the edges of the openings. Spray the space under the mesh a dark color so that bare plastic is not visible once the grille is in place. Glue the etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue around the edge, degreasing the metal first and spraying it with a base coat for metals. Lay the paint on in thin coats, otherwise the openings of the mesh fill in and the effect is lost.
This is a detail set, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
