The Quinta Studio set in 1:48 scale brings a colored relief cockpit interior for the carrier-based KA-6D. The printing is done by 3D technology on decal paper and is painted from the factory, so painting small instruments is no longer needed. The accessory is intended for a plastic kit; on its own it is not a model.
The KA-6D is the tanker version of the Grumman A-6 Intruder carrier-based attack aircraft, adapted for refueling other machines in flight. The crew consists of two men, but they do not sit one behind the other as on most combat aircraft — they are side by side, with the right seat set lower and further back. The cockpit is therefore unusually wide and when building a model you look into practically its whole area from above.
With cockpits that have side-by-side seats it is easy to block your own access. The proven order is: first finish and paint the cockpit tub, then lay the 3D decals of the floor and the side walls on it, let them dry thoroughly and only at the end glue in the seats and the instrument panel. Keep a decal softener for ordinary decals; here it would attack the printed resin. Anyone who glues the seats in first will reach the walls only with a brush held flat and the decal will not seat there. The instrument panel, on the other hand, is easier to do off the model and glue in as a finished unit. Before closing the fuselage up, always try dry whether the tub with the printing still fits into the fuselage half.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
