The Artillery models 1:48 mask set for the Grunau Baby IIb is a set of pre-cut masks for painting a model of the training glider. It is not a glider kit, only an aid for painting.
Responsibility details are not available.
Watch out for the name: although it sounds like a kit, this is a mask set. The package holds pre-cut self-adhesive masks in 1:48 scale intended for painting a model of the Grunau Baby IIb training glider. The model itself, its parts and its decals are not included.
A glider is simpler in shape than a powered aircraft, but more demanding as far as the surface is concerned. The large fabric areas of the wing will not stand a coarse paint texture, so spray thinly and preferably in more coats. The canopy glazing on these machines is fairly large relative to the overall size, so a cleanly masked frame shows very strongly in the result. Apply the mask to a degreased surface, press the edges home and, after spraying, lift it off while the paint is not yet fully cured. Finally, unify the glossy areas with a matte clear coat.
The Grunau Baby IIb is a single-seat training glider of the 1930s, structurally built on a wooden frame with fabric covering. It was created as a simple, repairable and forgiving machine for basic soaring instruction and spread to a number of countries, where it was still flown long after the Second World War. It has a strut-braced high wing and an open or only lightly covered cockpit, which is reflected in the small area of glazing.
The package contains masks only. The model, paints and glue are not included. Check compatibility with your kit before buying.
