A supplementary set of side protective shields in photo-etched metal, cut for a particular kit, the Tamiya one. It is not a model of the vehicle but a part with which you replace the plastic shields from the kit. On the Hetzer the Schürzen are one of the elements that most determine its silhouette, so any excessive thickness of plastic shows on them at once.
The Schürzen were thin sheet-metal shields hung on brackets along the sides of the vehicle, separated from the armor itself by a gap. Their task was to initiate or deflect a hit before it reached the side armor, which was important above all on vehicles with weakly protected sides, and the Hetzer, that is the light tank destroyer Jagdpanzer 38(t) on a chassis derived from the Pz.Kpfw. 38(t), was among them. In practice they were a stressed and vulnerable element: the shields bent, broke off against terrain and in period photographs are often missing altogether or preserved only in part.
That is exactly why the photo-etched version is interesting. Metal sheet keeps the bend it is given, so a dished, torn or completely missing shield can be depicted credibly, even with the hangers left empty, whereas a plastic part would crack once bent. The procedure: cut the parts out with a scalpel against a surface, level the edges with a file and run the bends along the etched grooves. Do the deformation carefully between your fingers over a soft surface, not with pliers, which leave marks. Degrease the metal with alcohol, glue with cyanoacrylate in a small drop and spray on a primer before painting. Try seating the brackets and hangers dry first; only once they fit should you glue them permanently.
