IRIS-T, a pair of guided missiles in 1:48 scale is a resin accessory set from the Swedish brand Maestro Models. It contains two modern short-range anti-aircraft missiles to complete the stores of a model under construction.
Responsibility details are not available.
The accessory set brings two IRIS-T guided anti-aircraft missiles in 1:48 scale, cast in resin. It is not a model of an aircraft nor a kit, but armament on its own, intended to be carried under the wing or the fuselage of a model of a modern combat aircraft. Maestro Models is a Swedish brand specializing in accessories for Scandinavian aircraft; a resin casting can manage the shapes and fine edges that with injection-molded plastic are usually lost at this size.
The IRIS-T is a short-range guided anti-aircraft missile with infrared guidance. It came about in an international European program led by Germany as a replacement for older equipment of this category. The seeker head works with an imaging infrared sensor, the missile uses thrust vector control and it is intended for close maneuvering combat as well as for launches at targets outside the forward hemisphere of its carrier. In shape it is a slender body with forward control surfaces and cruciform surfaces at the rear. In the Swedish Air Force this missile is listed under a domestic designation of its own.
First wash the resin castings in lukewarm water with dish soap - otherwise mold release agent residue will reliably keep the paint from adhering. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw, never break them off, and level the cut surface with sandpaper. Sand resin wet rather than dry and protect your airways. They are attached with cyanoacrylate glue; ordinary cement for plastic has no effect on resin. Apply primer before painting, because on a smooth surface the shade holds poorly. Colored identification bands look cleaner when sprayed through masking tape than when painted with a brush.
This is an accessory set, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
