Tamiya 1:48 Kawasaki Ki-61-Id Hien (Tony) Silver Color Plated is a special release of the kit of the Japanese fighter with plated parts in a silver sheen and with camouflage decals.

This is an unassembled plastic kit in 1:48 scale in a special form: the main airframe parts are plated to a silver sheen, so the surface imitates unpainted metal without the need to spray a metallic finish. The package also includes a decal sheet with camouflage, which makes it possible to build the aircraft in a camouflaged form as well.
The Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien was a Japanese single-seat fighter of the Second World War, unusual among Japanese types in having a liquid-cooled V engine. The Allied code name was Tony. The version designated Ki-61-I Tei, transcribed Id, belongs to the later series with a lengthened fuselage and with heavier cannon armament in the forward fuselage.
Plated parts are built a little differently from ordinary plastic. Polystyrene cement does not take hold on the plated layer, so at the gluing points the surface has to be carefully scraped or sanded down to the plastic. Handle the parts with gloves or through a cloth: fingerprints show markedly on the sheen and are hard to remove. Cut the gates off with a margin and clean up the cut faces over as small an area as possible, because every intervention in the plating is irreversible. If you are going to overspray the airframe for the camouflaged variant, count on the paint holding worse on the smooth sheen - degreasing and a fine base will help. Decals lie down very well on a smooth gloss surface, but use decal softener sparingly.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
