The Kawasaki T-4 is a subsonic trainer developed in Japan for the advanced training of pilots. It has a two-seat cockpit in tandem, a high-set wing and power from two small turbojets of Japanese design. It entered service in the second half of the 1980s and replaced older trainer types; besides training it is also used for liaison and escort duties. Best known are the machines in the colors of the Blue Impulse display team, which has flown the T-4 since the early 1990s. Their white and blue finish differs from season to season in details of markings and lettering, which is why kit boxes are designated by a particular year.
The key to a handsome result is the white base coat — apply it in thin coats over a light primer, or the plastic will show through and the surface will go grainy. Spray the blue areas only after the white has cured, and mask them with good tape with a sharp edge. Before the decals, clear coat the whole model with gloss: a sheet with large-area markings will silver on a matte surface. Seat the decals with a decal softener and wash the surplus adhesive off once they have dried. A model of this kind is weathered only very sparingly — display machines are kept clean, so it is enough to suggest signs of use on the landing gear and around the nozzles.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
