This resin conversion set from the Czech manufacturer AML offers the engine cowling and the exhausts for the Soviet Lavochkin La-5 fighter, or rather for the La-5F version, in 1:48 scale. It is an accessory for more experienced modelers, not a kit. The set makes it possible to rebuild the basic model into the correct form of the La-5F thanks to a reworked engine cowling with a carburetor intake and faithful exhaust stubs.
The La-5 was a single-engine fighter with a radial engine that markedly raised the performance of Soviet fighter aviation in the second half of the war. The La-5F variant differed from the basic type among other things in a modified canopy and in details of the engine section. These are exactly the differences the set deals with, using resin parts that replace the corresponding areas of the plastic model.
Wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent because of the mold release agent. Cut off the casting blocks and clean up the surfaces with respiratory protection. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). When converting, first dry-fit the parts against the fuselage of the model and fill any gaps with filler. Paint the exhausts with a transition between shades of rust and burnt steel.
