Hauler 1:48 M4A3E8 Sherman photo-etched detail set is a metal accessory for the model of the late version of the American medium tank. It completes a plastic kit; it is not a model itself.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched fret from the Czech maker Hauler for the M4A3E8 Sherman model in 1:48 scale, cut for the Hobby Boss kit. It serves to replace plastic parts with thin metal ones, which better match the real thickness of the sheet. It is not a kit but an accessory for a plastic model.
The M4A3E8, nicknamed Easy Eight, was a late stage of development of the Sherman. It got HVSS suspension with twin road wheels and wider tracks, which improved its behavior on soft ground, and a 76 mm gun. The silhouette of the vehicle thus changes noticeably from the early Shermans, mainly around the running gear and the fenders, so accessories for this version look different from those for the older variants.
Metal parts are painted differently from plastic: a smooth surface needs a primer, or the paint will rub off during handling. Once painted, drybrushing comes out well on photo-etch, because the edges really are sharp. Worn metal can be depicted by gently scraping the paint off the edges, and the result is more faithful than a painted silver line. Let washes run into the seams between photo-etch and plastic; that visually unifies the two materials. On late Shermans it pays to grade the dust and mud on the wide tracks and fenders, with the dirt getting lighter as it goes up the hull.
The set is an accessory for a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
