New Ware 1:48 Do 217 J-1/2 MARKING mask is a set of masking templates for spraying the markings onto a Dornier Do 217 J model in 1:48 scale. It replaces decals with sprayed markings; it is not a model nor a glazing mask. The set is intended for the ICM 48272 kit.

A masking set from the Czech maker New Ware, this time in the MARKING release. The fundamental difference from ordinary glazing masks: these templates do not serve to cover the cockpit, but to spray the markings and insignia straight onto the surface of a model. You stick them on, spray over them with the relevant paint, remove them, and a sharp marking with no carrier film edge stays on the airframe. It is an accessory, not an aircraft kit. The set is intended for the ICM 48272 kit.
The Dornier Do 217 was a German twin-engine aircraft of the Second World War, following in shape from the Do 17 and Do 215 line but substantially larger. The J-1 and J-2 versions were a night fighter modification with a solid front section instead of a glazed nose. On this type the large areas of the fuselage and wing give the markings plenty of room, so the difference between a sprayed and a decal marking shows markedly.
A sprayed marking looks more faithful than a decal, because it has no glossy film edge and follows the texture of the surface. The condition is a perfectly adhering template edge - run a toothpick along it once it is stuck down and spray several very thin layers. With multicolor markings keep to the order from the lighter color to the darker one and let the layers dry thoroughly in between. Lay the positive parts of the template, that is, the inner islands, out dry beforehand, so that you know where they belong. The base has to be smooth; on a coarsely flattened surface the paint will bleed. Once the templates are removed, the transition can be evened out with a thin clear coat, which levels the microscopic relief of the sprayed layer.
This is a masking set for spraying markings, not a kit and not decals. Paints and the aircraft model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
