This set from the manufacturer New Ware does not deal with the glazing but with the markings on the surface of the model. Instead of decals, the shapes are sprayed in paint: the mask is applied to an already painted and dry surface, sprayed over with the appropriate shade, and once it is off the marking is left directly in the finish. It is a technically more demanding but visually cleaner procedure than applying a decal. The masks are cut for the ICM 48261 kit.
A decal is always a thin layer of film laid on the surface. On a matte finish a glossy outline tends to show around its edges, and over an engraved line or a rivet the film sometimes ripples, so the edge visibly jumps. A sprayed marking has no carrier film, so the surface stays uniform and the finish has the same sheen everywhere. In the same way, the color of a marking can be tinted and weathered together with the rest of the surface, which with a decal never looks entirely natural.
The base color has to be perfectly cured, not merely dry to the touch, or the mask will pull it away when removed. Place the mask dry, check its position against the engraved lines and only then press it down. With multi-color markings, spray in layers and let the paint set between them. Spray strictly square to the surface and very thinly, because it is precisely with masks for markings that a heavy coat makes a visible step. Protect the area around the mask with paper or tape, as overspray is hard to remove from a large surface.
The package holds only the mask set. A kit, paints and glue are not part of it. It is a technical modeling accessory; the markings are a reproduction of the historical markings of the aircraft.
