The Quinta Studio set offers a complete colored interior of the two-seat Mirage 2000B in 1:48 scale. The detail is made by 3D printing on decal paper, so it has real depth, and yet it is handled like a decal. Nothing is mixed and nothing is sprayed; the set is painted from the factory. It is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model.
The Mirage 2000B is the two-seat trainer version of the French single-engine aircraft with a delta wing. The second seat is arranged in tandem behind the first, so the cockpit is longer and once the build is finished twice as much instrument equipment is visible in it. It is therefore the two-seat versions that get the most out of a 3D interior — they offer twice as many surfaces where the detail is seen through the canopy.
The white veil around a decal that modelers call silvering comes from microscopic bubbles of air trapped between the film and a matte surface. With relief 3D decals the risk is higher, because they do not sit on the surface over their whole area. The solution is simple and cannot be got around: spray the surface with a gloss varnish and let it cure thoroughly. Once the piece is seated, press the water out from the center to the edges with a soft cloth and blot the excess with absorbent paper. When everything has dried, even the surface out with a matte or semi-gloss varnish, so that the cockpit does not look like a shop window.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
