An accessory set from L Decals Studio: two R-40 air-to-air missiles in 1:48 scale and a sheet of small technical lettering. It is not a kit of an aircraft but underwing ordnance for a model you build separately. The R-40 is a massive weapon, so on a finished machine it makes up a prominent part of the silhouette and it pays to reach for a more accurate part.
The R-40, under the NATO reporting name AA-6 Acrid, is a Soviet long-range air-to-air missile of the 1960s, associated above all with the fast MiG-25 interceptor. It is among the largest weapons of its category and it was produced in two guidance versions, radar and infrared, which on the aircraft were usually combined in a pair to raise the chance of a hit against jamming. The difference between the two renderings is visible in the shape of the nose of the missile.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry. Before gluing, check that the long body is straight; a slight bow can be corrected by a brief dip in hot water and cooling in a straight position. Cut the casting stubs off with a saw and do not use cutters on the fragile control fins. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Lay the lettering down over a gloss clear coat with a decal softener, and at the end unify the surface with a semi-matte varnish.
The package holds two missiles and a sheet of lettering. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
