Precisely die-cut self-adhesive masks from the National Insignia Series line of the Polish maker Pmask, for a model of the Mustang in British colors in 1:48 scale. The national insignia are sprayed through the template, so they arise as a real layer of paint and no carrier film stays on the model. The sizes of the templates come from the areas of this type of aircraft in this scale.

The real subject

The Mustang came about to a British order, and the Royal Air Force received it as its first operator. Early aircraft with the Allison engine served mainly for tactical reconnaissance and for attacks on ground targets at low altitude, while later forms with the Merlin engine already filled the escort fighter role. The appearance of the British national insignia meanwhile changed several times during the war, in shape as well as in the proportion of the colors.

Use and tips

• Let the camouflage finish dry thoroughly, and only then stick the template on.
• Press the edges down with a blunt tool, so that paint cannot creep under them.
• Apply the colors one after another in thin coats, so that the edge does not create a step.
• Remove the mask at a shallow angle before the paint has fully cured.
