A sheet of waterslide decals in 1:48 scale for the twin engine B-25D bomber in Royal Air Force service under the name Mitchell II. The manufacturer's data names four specific aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
The twin engine bomber from the North American works was created for the US Army Air Forces, but Lend-Lease deliveries brought it to British crews as well. The B-25D form differed from the earlier C variant mainly in the plant in Kansas City; technically it was practically the same machine. In Britain it was given the name Mitchell II and from the spring of 1943 it served with day units that attacked railroad stations, airfields and launching sites in France and in the Benelux countries.
The range of markings rests on four machines. Three carried the code letters SM and belonged to No. 305 Squadron, the Polish unit that in 1943 exchanged Wellingtons for Mitchells: FV937, FL923 and FV948. The fourth aircraft, FW130, flew with No. 226 Squadron. All four are given in the standard combination of olive drab above and neutral gray below, so one mix of colors will do for the whole sheet.
The printing has a thin carrier film and accurate registration, thanks to which the edges almost disappear once dry. It is advisable to prepare the area under a decal with clear gloss varnish, release the decal in warm water and soak the excess liquid up with a soft cloth. On riveted and broken sections a softening solution will help. A final matte top coat unifies the sheen of the whole surface.
Any kit of the matching form is suitable as a base, whether newer or older tooling.
The box holds only the printed sheet. The plastic model and paints do not belong with it.
