A New Ware 1:48 mask set for the Cessna O-2A in its late production version, BASIC grade — pre-cut kabuki masks in the basic scope.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of self-adhesive masking templates in kabuki paper for a model of the O-2A observation aircraft in its late production version, 1:48 scale. It is not a kit or a part of a model — it is an accessory that replaces the lengthy business of cutting masks from tape by hand. The BASIC designation is the lowest of the three grades in which New Ware releases its mask sets; the grades differ in scope, the widest being the EXPERT set for the same aircraft.
The Cessna O-2 is a military derivative of a civilian twin-engine type with two engines arranged on the centerline of the fuselage, one tractor and one pusher, and with twin tail booms. The O-2A version served for observation and for forward air control. It is characterized by extensive cockpit glazing with a great many frames — and that is exactly what makes masking the glazing one of the most demanding parts of the build. Late production machines differ from the early ones in details of the airframe and the equipment.
Apply the masks only onto a cured and degreased surface. Lift the pieces with tweezers, lay them on dry and press the edges down carefully with a toothpick. On glazing it pays to spray a thin layer of the interior color of the frames first and only then the top camouflage — any creep under the edge is then invisible. Apply the paint in several very thin layers and take the masks off while the finish is not yet fully cured.
The set contains only masking templates. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
