The 1:24 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.VIII SPACE interior set from Eduard brings color three-dimensional elements to the cockpit of the 1:24 Spitfire. It is an accessory to a model, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an interior accessory from the Eduard SPACE line, not a model of an aircraft. The elements have a three-dimensional structure and their color straight from production, so the cockpit gains readable instruments and raised detail without lengthy painting by hand. In 1:24 the cockpit is open to the eye as in no other aircraft scale, and that is exactly where a modification like this repays most.
The Mk.VIII was the version with a strengthened structure, designed from the start for Merlin engines with a two-stage supercharger. Unlike the hurriedly adapted Mk.IX it had a retractable tailwheel and a series of small changes to the airframe. A large part of the production went to the Mediterranean, to Australia and over Burma, and the shape of the wingtips differed according to the theater.
The elements are fitted to the cockpit parts before the fuselage is closed up. Level the surface beneath them and remove the raised plastic imitations of the instruments, or the new part will not sit down. Once seated, let the whole thing dry thoroughly and go over it with a matte varnish so that the sheen is evened out.
The bigger the model, the stricter the viewer's eye: an unevenness that would be lost in 1:72 is clearly readable here. Reckon, then, on setting aside more time for the fitting, and work in good light with a magnifier.
This set contains neither the Spitfire model itself nor any painting material.
