A winter radiator cover for the Opel Blitz truck in 1:48 scale is a small accessory for a kit you have already bought, not a model. It imitates the protection for the radiator grille that German trucks were given in freezing conditions.
Responsibility details are not available.
A small accessory from the Czech maker Hauler that changes the character of a whole model: a radiator cover in place sets the truck into a winter scene at once. The part is fitted to a finished or part-built Tamiya or Italeri kit; in itself it is neither a kit nor a finished model. The cover is cast as a solid part, so there is no folding and bending - it is enough to clean it, sand the mating surface and glue it on.
The Opel Blitz was a three-ton truck that became the backbone of German supply transport in the Second World War. It was produced in enormous numbers in versions with a flatbed and with a box body, and its chassis served for special bodies as well. In the Russian winter a tarpaulin or a sheet-metal cover was commonly pulled over the front of the radiator, which kept the engine from overcooling and held its working temperature - without it the water in the radiator easily chilled and the heating in the cab practically did not work. It is precisely this improvised but ever-present element that the set imitates.
First wash the casting in warm water with detergent, to rid it of the remains of the mold release agent - otherwise paint will not hold on it. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a thin cutter, level the area with abrasive paper and protect your breathing while sanding. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). It is worth painting the cover differently from the body: tarpaulins tended to be dirty, faded and often in a different shade from the vehicle. A winter scene suits drybrushing, dust pigment on the lower edge and fine streaks from running water.
This is an accessory part for a kit you have already bought. It is supplied unpainted; the base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
