The set from SX-Art contains self-adhesive masking stencils for a model of the German Dornier Do 17Z aircraft in 1:48 scale. The name covers three subversions, Z-10, Z-2 and Z-7, so the set is conceived for this whole group. It is not a kit but an aid to painting, with which a motif is sprayed directly in paint.
The Do 17Z has a glazed forward fuselage made up of many panes, masking which by hand with cut tape is tedious and the result tends to be uneven. A precisely cut stencil shortens this work markedly and the frames come out regular. Masks come into their own just as well with markings and colored areas, where a decal would leave a glossy edge on a matte finish or would wrinkle over riveting.
The surface must be degreased and perfectly cured. Stick the masks down, press the edges carefully and cover the remaining uncovered areas with masking tape or film, so that overspray does not reach them. Spray thinned paint at a low pressure in several thin coats. Take the stencils off shortly after the paint has set, with tweezers at a sharp angle to the surface. Reckon with single use.
The package contains the masking stencils alone. A model, paints and thinners are not part of it.
