An injection-molded plastic kit of the two-seat multipurpose combat aircraft Shenyang J-16 in 1:48 scale from the maker Hobby Boss. It is a sizeable set with more than three hundred parts, a detailed fuselage and wing, a well worked out cockpit and photo-etched sheet for the fine details. According to the data of the maker the finished model has a length of 470 mm and a span of 308 mm, so it will take up matching room in a display case. A decal sheet and instructions are included.
The J-16 is a two-seat twin-engine multipurpose combat aircraft developed by the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation and taken into service with the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). In its design it grows out of the two-seat J-11BS, that is out of the family derived from the Su-27, and in concept it is comparable to the machines of the Su-30 category. Against the older versions it received modernized avionics, a more powerful radar and a wider range of external stores for strikes against ground as well as naval targets, while the capability for air combat was kept. The crew consists of a pilot and a weapon systems operator in a tandem layout.
Assemble and paint the cockpit completely, the photo-etched parts included, before you glue the fuselage halves together - once it is closed it is no longer accessible. On large kits of this category count on filling and sanding the joints on the spine of the fuselage and in the wing root; after sanding, restore the engraved lines that have disappeared. Paint the ducts of the intake trunking separately and before they are glued shut. Spray the base shades with an airbrush over a primer - modern Chinese machines wear multitone gray camouflage, where a clean boundary between the areas is a must. Apply the decals onto a gloss varnish and once they have dried fix them with a matte overcoat; accent the panel lines with a thin wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
