Polikarpov I-16 UTI-4 — interior set 1:48 (captured aircraft) is a resin accessory from the Czech manufacturer AML for the two-seat trainer version of the I-16 in the guise of aircraft tested by the German side.
Responsibility details are not available.
The third in the line of interior sets from the Czech manufacturer AML for the two-seat UTI-4, this time in a version devoted to aircraft that fell into German hands. It is a resin accessory for the base kit, not a stand-alone model, and its job is to turn both open cockpits into a full scale representation.
After fighting began on the Eastern Front in 1941, a number of Soviet aircraft including UTI-4 trainers were left behind on captured airfields. Captured equipment was routinely gathered and tested, as it allowed the construction and the qualities of the opponent's aircraft to be studied. The two-seat UTI-4 was derived from the I-16 fighter, the pioneer of the fast monoplane with retractable landing gear.
A model of a captured aircraft is a rewarding subject: the combination of the original Soviet interior with repainted external markings looks fresh in a display case. Wash the resin parts, separate them from the casting blocks and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. The interior green can be lightened in places and given scuffs, as trainer aircraft usually had hard service behind them.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
