The third 1:48 decal sheet for the equipment of the 1st Polish Armoured Division in the years 1944 to 1946. Six vehicles from a reconnaissance tank to an armored car.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Polish armored division landed in Normandy in August 1944 and immediately afterward held the heights above the German line of retreat, where it fought surrounded for several days. It then passed through Belgium and the Netherlands, where it liberated Breda, and finished the war in northern Germany. Its equipment is therefore a mixture of British and American types and carries British tactical markings supplemented by Polish symbols.
The coverage begins with an anti-aircraft vehicle on the chassis of a Crusader tank and goes on to a Cromwell IV tank, both with a mounted rifle unit in France in 1944. Next comes a Sherman of the 2nd Tank Regiment in the Netherlands at the turn of 1944 and 1945, two Universal Carrier Mk.II tracked carriers with an infantry unit and with a dragoon regiment, and finally a Staghound armored car of the divisional headquarters in Germany in 1945.
In this scale a divisional insignia measures only a few millimeters, so it is better to transfer a decal on the tip of a damp brush than with tweezers. The surface has to be smooth and glossy, otherwise the small print coarsens optically. Once they are dry, unify the decals with a matte varnish and only then shade, so that the edges of the film disappear.
The vehicles of this formation share an unusual combination of British and American materiel in a single unit, together with the British system of tactical markings and Polish symbols of its own. On a model it is therefore easy to see who the vehicle belonged to, even without knowing its line of march. The sheet covers three different theaters, so vehicles in completely different states of wear can be built from it.
