This is not an aircraft kit but an accessory that you add to your own kit. The package contains small resin turnbuckles for bracing wires in the form carried by British aircraft of the later period of the First World War. You use them to replace coarsely molded plastic imitations or to add detail in places where the kit does not deal with the bracing at all. The exact number of pieces in the package and the intended use of the set are given on the manufacturer's packaging.
The flying surfaces of a biplane were held by a system of steel wires, and the turnbuckle was the fitting with which a wire was tensioned to the required stiffness. On a model it is a small thing that the eye notices at once: a plain stretched thread looks flat, whereas a thread anchored into a turnbuckle gives the bracing scale depth. British practice used its own shape of this fitting and its later form differed from the early one; this set corresponds to the late type.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent so that no mold release agent is left on the surface and the paint holds. Cut the casting gate off with a new blade and sand the remainder wet and with respiratory protection — resin dust must not be inhaled. Use cyanoacrylate glue for gluing; ordinary cement for plastic will not join resin. Thread the wire through the eye before you seat the turnbuckle in its pre-drilled hole. A dark metallic shade and a light wash into the recesses give the fitting depth.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as separate resin parts. The kit, the wire, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
