Trumpeter 1:48 MiG-23MLD Flogger-K — a plastic kit of the late and most advanced version of the Soviet fighter with swing wings (variable-geometry wing).
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet MiG-23MLD fighter in 1:48 scale from Trumpeter. It is the most advanced production version of the MiG-23 family (NATO reporting name Flogger-K). The kit offers a faithfully shaped fuselage, clear canopy parts, a detailed cockpit and landing gear bays, a working swing-wing mechanism and a generous set of external stores; photo-etched parts (among them the seat belts) and decals are included in the box.
The MiG-23 is a Soviet fighter with a variable-geometry swing wing — the pilot changes the sweep angle according to the flight regime: spread for take-off, landing and maneuvering, strongly swept for fast flight. The MLD version was a late upgrade with refined aerodynamics and avionics and better behavior at high angles of attack; one of its recognition features is the dogtooth on the leading edge of the wing glove. In its day the type formed the backbone of the frontal fighter aviation of the Soviet bloc countries and of many other users.
Finish and paint the cockpit and the seat before you close the fuselage — they are hard to reach once it is glued; the fine photo-etched belts come out well after fitting and light painting. Protect the canopy glazing with masks and glue it with a canopy cement that does not fog. On the swing-wing mechanism glue only the fixed joints and leave the moving parts free if you want to change the wing position. Use liquid cement on the plastic and spray the surfaces with an airbrush over a primer; paint the external stores separately and fit them last.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
