Russian naval crew, figure number 1, in 1:48 scale from the maker Offset Scale Models. An accessory for bringing aircraft and ship scenes to life.
Responsibility details are not available.
The item belongs among figures, not among kits of equipment. It is a casting of a member of a Russian naval crew in 1:48 scale from the maker Offset Scale Models, designated as number one of a loose line. The figure is meant for bringing aircraft and deck scenes to life, where on its own it gives the model scale and explains to the viewer what is happening in the scene. The pose of the figure, the kit and the number of parts of the casting are stated on the box.
With short-run figures it pays to look the casting over against the light first and find the mold parting lines. These are sanded away with a fine file or a scalpel drawn along the surface, not by cutting at right angles. Then wash the casting in lukewarm water with dish soap and let it dry completely — residues of the mold release agent are the most common cause of paint not holding on a figure and peeling off. Glue any separate parts with superglue.
The figure is best painted on a wooden stick while it is not yet glued to a base. Apply a thin primer, ideally a light gray one, which shows up the shapes and at the same time serves as a base. Work from the large surfaces to the details and in thin coats — one heavy coat floods the modeling. The face and the hands can be managed even by a less experienced modeler who uses a base tone, a darker shadow in the recesses and a lighter tinge on the raised places. At the end even the surface out with a matte clear coat and leave gloss only where it belongs.
The figure is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
