A resin armament set for the Spitfire Mk.I in 1:48 scale deals with the machine gun armament of the early wing including the ports on the leading edge. It is an accessory for a kit, not a model of the aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
The detail set cast in resin from the maker CMK is intended for a plastic kit of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I in 1:48 scale. It completes the wing armament and its surroundings, that is the part of the model where injected plastic runs into the limits of what it can do. The aircraft itself is not in the package.
The Spitfire of the first series had armament formed by machine guns distributed in both halves of the wing, with ports on the leading edge and access panels on the underside. On the real aircraft the ports were taped over with fabric, which protected the barrels from clogging and freezing; modelers know this as a typical small detail that can be suggested on a model. An injection-molded kit usually has these places only suggested with a dimple, or not at all. Resin castings make it possible to render them as real openings with the correct spacing and depth.
Proceed from the coarse to the fine. First remove the original plastic suggestions of the weapons and panels from the wing; with shallow details sanding is enough, and on protruding parts use a saw. Then sand the leading edge into a smooth profile; while sanding, turn the wing so that no flat is created. The dry test: lay the castings on, check that the ports sit in one line and at the same height on both halves, and mark the position with a pencil if need be. Only then glue with cyanoacrylate glue. Wash the resin in warm water with detergent before building, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand wet or with a respirator, as resin dust is not to be inhaled.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
