A plastic kit of the FM-2 Wildcat carrier fighter in 1:72 scale. A limited edition put together on the theme of machines in training service.
Responsibility details are not available.
The FM-2 is a late stage in the development of the Wildcat carrier fighter. Compared with the older machines it was given a lightened airframe and an air-cooled Wright R-1820 nine-cylinder radial engine, so it improved in rate of climb and could operate even from small escort carriers with a short deck. The recognition feature of the version is a taller vertical tail, which balanced the more powerful powerplant.
The subtitle of the edition refers to machines in training service. Those are exactly the ones that tend to interest modelers, with different colors and markings from the ones found on machines in combat use, and a model like that therefore does not disappear among uniformly gray carrier aircraft in a display case.
Dry-fit the assembly, remove excess material and traces of manufacture with a sharp blade and sand the surfaces. On a small single-seat aircraft the cockpit is in plain view, so finish and paint it before closing up the fuselage. The cylinders of the radial engine come out well if, after the base coat, the gaps between the fins are darkened and the edges brought out. Mask the clear canopy before spraying, not once the paint has dried.
Paints, glue and putty are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
