A set of wet transfers for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX fighter. It carries national insignia and aircraft markings together with stencil markings, that is the small lettering that appeared on the real aircraft at filler points, servicing openings, armament and moving parts. It is precisely these small things that decide whether a finished model reads as a machine in service or merely as painted plastic.
Work proceeds element by element. The base must be smooth and glossy, because on a matte finish the print will not adhere evenly. The element is cut out together with its paper, laid in the intended place and moistened; after a moment the backing paper is carefully removed and only the print stays on the surface. The edge therefore does not create the glossy rim that has to be suppressed with ordinary decals. The length of time the water should act is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Let the finish cure properly and only then move on to the transfers; into fresh paint the print will come out unevenly. Have a sharp blade and tweezers with fine tips ready, as the elements tend to be small. Once dry, even the finished area out with a matte or semi-gloss clear coat according to the surface the whole machine is to have. Keep unused elements dry and out of direct sunlight.
This is an accessory to a kit. The model of the aircraft, paints and clear coats are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise. Which kit the sheet is cut for is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
