Nineteen-inch wheel discs in the racing spirit of the make from Zuffenhausen, without shoes.
Responsibility details are not available.
A nineteen-inch wheel means in 1:24 scale a rim with a diameter of around 20.1 millimeters. The abbreviation in the name refers to the circuit tradition of the Stuttgart make, with which it appeared on cars built for endurance races. The word custom then suggests that the pattern is not an exact copy of one factory wheel but a freer design inspired by that setting.
Sporting wheels tend to have a deep barrel and arms seated close to the outer face. The consequence is clearly apparent on a finished model: a fairly large area of the inner wall is uncovered between the arms, and with it the room for the brake. The casting therefore has to be drawn out in this part, otherwise the wheel would come across as empty in the view from the side. It is right here that an accessory wheel diverges most markedly from what tends to be in the box, where the inside is as a rule blanked off with a flat surface.
The package deals with the discs alone. It suits when you want to keep the shoes the body gets on with, or when you have tires in stock from another kit and are looking only for a nicer center for them.
Degrease the surface and prime thinly. Dark shades with a polished lip look good on this type of wheel, but they call for precise masking of the edge of the barrel. It pays to work with a narrow tape stretched around the circumference in two goes.
Finally, check the alignment of the hub. A wheel of this diameter will reveal even a slight run-out that would pass unnoticed at a smaller size, and when a car is stood in a display case such a fault is most visible from the front.
