About product

A cannon projects, a machine gun is recessed

The universal wing of the later Spitfires carried two weapons of completely different appearance. The twenty-millimeter Hispano cannons had a long barrel which projected a long way ahead of the leading edge, and because the whole breech did not fit into the thin wing section, a longitudinal bulge had to appear above it. The machine guns of 7.7 millimeters caliber beside them have their muzzles practically recessed in the edge and from a distance you will not tell them. It is that contrast which makes the Spitfire a good lesson in how the muzzle of a cannon differs from the muzzle of a machine gun.

The two turned barrels in the package are aimed at exactly this prominent pair. They are not bare tubes: the shape of the sleeve is included, which on the real aircraft covered the root of the barrel and kept water and dirt out. An injected plastic part tends to be thick at that spot and its end is always blind, so the replacement is noticeable at once.

The remaining contents belong to painting. The films follow the shape of the glazing including the front bulletproof panel and prepare it from the outer as well as the inner side; one set of masks serves for spraying the national insignia.

The set covers two related marks. They differ mainly in their engine and altitude performance, but the shape of the cockpit and the layout of the armament are practically the same, so one set of films and barrels will serve both.

A metal barrel is fitted here only after the finish is complete, including the matte coat. Try it dry first, because the hole in the wing tends to be somewhat narrower after painting and a brass part must not be forced into a tight seat.

The cut-outs correspond to the Hasegawa kit in 1:48 scale. A plastic model is not part of the delivery.

FAQ

They are not bare tubes; they include the shape of the sleeve which on the real aircraft protected the root of the cannon barrel.

They are not. The metal parts concern only the pair of cannons whose muzzles project prominently from the leading edge.

Yes, both have practically the same shape of cockpit and the same layout of armament.

It does not; the marking is prepared as masks intended for spraying with paint.
