The Supermarine Spitfire in the Mk Vb variant, 1:48 scale. The package contains one mask for the glazing for the outer side, one set of insignia masks, decals and two metal barrels for the wing Hispano cannons of 20 mm caliber.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mk Vb variant was the most widespread form of the Spitfire of 1941 and 1942 and it came about fairly prosaically, by re-engining the airframe of the older Mk V with a stronger Merlin of the 45 series. The letter in the designation describes the layout of the armament: the so-called B wing carried one Hispano cannon of 20 mm caliber in each half plus a pair of machine guns of 7.7 mm caliber. The cannon bulges on the upper surface of the wing are typical of this version.
The choice here has two sides. The metal parts, yes: the Hispano barrels project several millimeters from the leading edge and at this size of model an open muzzle is clearly legible, whereas a blind plastic peg is not. The masking, however, allows only for the outer side of the glazing. Anyone intending to leave the cockpit closed will lose nothing. Anyone who wants to slide it back has to mask the inner frames with his own means.
The dimensions correspond to the Tamiya kit. If you are building a machine with the desert filter under the nose, that is the version committed to the Mediterranean, count on the shape of the filter differing between individual models; the masks for the glazing are not affected by it. The metal barrels are best glued in at the very end of the build so that they do not get in the way while the model is handled. Until then keep them in the bag; small turned parts like to get lost.
