The Su-27UB is a combat trainer version, so it differs from the single-seat Su-27 in a tandem cockpit for two crew members and in the related modifications of the fuselage and the vertical tail surfaces. The Su-27 is a heavy twin-engine fighter with an integral airframe layout in which the fuselage and the wing blend smoothly into a single lifting body. Power comes from two afterburning jet engines placed in separate nacelles with a central tunnel between them. The aircraft has a long range without drop tanks and a conventional layout with two vertical tail surfaces. The two-seat version, designated Flanker-C in the NATO code, serves to train crews while retaining the combat capability of the basic version. Painting fighters of this category rests on several shades of gray-blue with soft transitions, so spray with an airbrush in thin coats and refine the transitions with heavily thinned paint. Lay a gloss clear coat before the decals and a matte one after them. Pick out the panel lines with a thin wash so that they do not vanish on the large surface.
