Replacement resin wheels with a flattened contact area for models of the Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopter series. This is not a kit of a helicopter – the set replaces the plastic wheels of the base kit and gives a model a natural, weighted stance on the ground.
The Mil Mi-8 and its modernized variant the Mi-17 are among the most numerously built helicopters in history. The medium transport machine with a pair of turboshaft engines has served since the 1960s in armies and with civil operators on every continent. It stands on a fixed three-point landing gear – two main wheels at the rear and a twin nose wheel at the front – so on a machine standing still the wheels are a prominent recognition feature.
Separate the wheels from the casting blocks with a razor saw, sand the cut lightly and glue the parts on with super glue so that the flattening faces the base. On machines of the Soviet school the hubs are often green and the tires dark gray to black – in such a small scale it helps to paint the hub before separating it from the block, with the block serving as a holder. A fine dust pigment on the bottom of the tires will underline the look of use.
