Pre-shaped masks for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. IXc in 1:24 scale. They are stuck down before spraying and hold the paint edge along its whole length.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk. IXc is a version of the British single-seat fighter of the Second World War. The c designation relates to the universal wing, which made it possible to assemble the armament according to the task. In 1:24 scale such an aircraft becomes a model with a span of roughly 47 centimeters, so even a slight imprecision in the painting is obvious at first glance.
Masking by hand with adhesive tape costs hours of work on a large model and the paint still gets under the edge easily. A pre-shaped mask does away with that work and holds the edge equally along its whole length. The result is a sharp transition with no touching up and cleaning afterwards.
Wash and degrease the surface first, because a mask does not hold on greasy plastic and paint creeps under it. Stick it down before spraying and run a wooden stick along the edges so that nothing stands proud anywhere. Apply the paint in thin coats. Once it has set, remove the mask by pulling at a shallow angle to the side rather than straight up; wipe any adhesive residue off with a soft cloth.
For the builder of a large Spitfire who wants to save time and have the certainty of a repeatable edge. The set is tied to the particular shape of the parts, so check against the manufacturer's instructions that it matches the kit you are building. The work will be appreciated even by someone who can manage with tape alone but does not want to repeat the same procedure on both wings and on the fuselage.
The package contains the masks. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
