An accessory set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard that replaces the cockpit of the model of the early Spitfire Mk.I in 1:48 scale with a complete interior of accurate castings. It is not a kit and there is no model of the aircraft in the package. A cast interior brings a depth of space that injected plastic cannot offer: the floor and side wall structures stand free, the instruments and controls have sharp outlines and the seat carries fine surface detail. For a modeler who builds with the canopy open, it is the single biggest step up in quality that can be put into a model.
The Spitfire Mk.I is the earliest production version of the British single-engine fighter, with its characteristic elliptical wing and the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. The cockpit of the early machines was narrow and clearly laid out, with a tube frame structure in the side walls and a simply arranged instrument panel. It is precisely this design that makes the interior a rewarding subject for added detail, because once the canopy is open a large part of the inner structure is directly visible.
Wash the parts in warm water with a drop of dish soap, otherwise paint will not hold on the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and sand the surfaces wet and with respiratory protection. Glue with super glue, as plastic cement will not join this material. Dry-fit first to see whether the fuselage halves really will close with the interior built in — it is usually necessary to thin the walls from the inside. Paint the interior and add patina with a dark wash before you glue it into the fuselage, because afterwards you will not be able to reach it.
The package holds only the accessory parts. The model, glue and paints are not part of it.
