A figure of a US Air Force fighter pilot of the Vietnam War era, 1:48 scale. It will bring a model on a stand, an open cockpit and a scene on the airfield area to life.
Responsibility details are not available.
During the Vietnam War the pilot of an American fighter wore a flight suit, a g-suit, a life vest and a helmet with a visor and an oxygen mask. A figure in all that comes across as bulkier than in an ordinary uniform, and it is exactly that which makes the figure recognizable beside a model.
In 1:48 scale an adult figure measures about three and a half centimeters. A figure like that gives a model the sense of scale that the aircraft alone on a stand does not have, and the viewer can immediately judge the size of the machine from it. It comes into its own in an open cockpit, leaning against a ladder, by the nose gear and as part of a larger scene on the airfield area.
Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder with fine abrasive paper. Then wash and degrease the surface, and only then paint. The proven order is the base coat, the areas of the clothing, the equipment and finally the face and the hands. Bring out the folds of the clothing with a thin wash, and the edges and the taut areas with a dry brush. Set the straps of the vest and the harness apart in shade as well as in sheen, otherwise they will merge on a small figure.
The set belongs beside American aircraft of this period, but it will also serve as a stand-alone accessory in a display cabinet. The figure is not made of polystyrene; it is glued to the model with cyanoacrylate. Try the fit dry beforehand so that you know where the figure will sit.
The aircraft model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
