The set from the maker CMK contains, according to the name, two resin drop tanks of 900 liters capacity in 1:48 scale. They are external parts that are hung under the fuselage or the wing of a model of a German aircraft of the Second World War period. The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model of an aircraft.
A drop tank is a jettisonable container of fuel that extends the range of an aircraft. Technically it is a thin-walled body with internal baffle construction, hung on a pylon under the fuselage, with a fuel feed and a release mechanism. On a model it is recognized by the lengthwise parting seam, the bands around the body and the small fittings at the mounting point, and it is precisely those details that tend to be soft or interrupted by the parting line of the mold on injected plastic.
The tanks are fitted onto the pylon that is part of the kit. First remove the original plastic molding of the tank from it, if there is one, and sand the mating surface flat; on the curved underside of the fuselage it is advisable to pre-shape the edge with a round file. In the mounting place it is worth drilling a hole and gluing in a short pin of wire, as a resin tank is heavier than a plastic one and cyanoacrylate glue alone on a smooth surface will in time give way. The dry test: lay the tank on without glue and check that it is parallel to the longitudinal axis and that with a pair under the wing both hang the same. Wash the castings free of the release agent beforehand, cut the casting block off with a saw and sand the surface after it wet.
