A 1:700 masking set for HMS Galatea from Flyhawk contains machine-cut self-adhesive masks for painting a model of the British light cruiser. It is an aid for painting, not a kit.

A set of machine-cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the light cruiser HMS Galatea in 1:700 scale. The masks are stuck onto a painted and dried surface, they cover the areas that are to stay in the original color, and once the next shade has been sprayed they are peeled off. It is not a kit: it is an aid for painting a model you already have under way.
In 1:700 scale a sharp boundary between color fields is hard to hold with hand-cut tape: the parts are tiny, the radii small and every deviation shows on the finished model. Pre-cut masks have shapes derived from the shapes of the parts, so the boundary comes out the same on both sides and you do not have to measure anything or transfer it from a drawing. Paint is saved as well, because instead of laborious filling in with a brush you spray straight away with an airbrush.
The surface has to be clean and degreased, otherwise the mask will not hold. Let the paint underneath dry thoroughly, ideally overnight, otherwise peeling the mask off will tear it away. Press the mask down with a soft stick, especially along the edge, so that paint does not run under it, and spray dry in thin coats, rather perpendicular to the surface than at a sharp angle. Peel it off shortly after the paint has dried, while the film of paint is still flexible, and do so slowly and at an angle back over itself; on tiny parts tweezers help. Wipe off any adhesive residue with a cotton swab moistened in alcohol.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The kit and the paints are not included in the package.
