An injection-molded plastic kit of the British Type 23 frigate with the name Westminster and the pennant number F237, in 1:700 scale from the brand Trumpeter. With modern warships 1:700 is the standard scale for collectors who want models of several vessels of comparable size side by side in a display case. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Type 23 frigates form the backbone of the Royal Navy surface forces and were designed above all for fighting submarines. Characteristic of them are a clean silhouette with a limited number of protrusions, simple superstructures and a stern area with a hangar for a shipboard helicopter. The units of this class have been modernized over a long period and the make-up of their sensors and armament changes during service, so the particular form of the individual ships differs over time.
In 1:700 scale clean work is what decides: fill and sand the hull seams right at the start, because later the superstructures make them hard to reach. The gray finish of modern ships is rewarding but merciless to unevenness, so use a primer and spray thin coats. Set the decks and the horizontal surfaces apart with a slightly darker shade, so that the model does not look flat. The small antennas and the railings are glued with cyanoacrylate glue at the very end. Choose very light weathering; modern vessels look convincing clean rather than rusty.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
