This kit from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi holds two Shiratsuyu-class destroyers in 1:700 scale — Harusame and Umikaze. The TOKU Easy line is based on the proven molds of the Toku line but with a markedly simplified design and fewer parts: the build is quick, straightforward and manageable even for less experienced modelers, while the resulting model keeps the characteristic silhouette of the subject.
The Shiratsuyu-class destroyers of the mid-1930s were compact ships with powerful torpedo armament, designed for night attacks on enemy groups. Both Harusame and Umikaze took an intensive part in the fighting in the Pacific — from convoy escorts to the clashes off the Solomon Islands; both ships were lost during 1944.
Fewer parts means quick progress — all the more reason to clean up the mold seams carefully. Paint both ships in Imperial Japanese Navy gray, and a fine wash will bring the deck detail to life. A pair of sister ships is ideal for practicing fine weathering: treat each one a little differently and compare the result, or set them in a shared miniature diorama.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
