According to the name, hull parts are also included in the package, so the model can be built as a full-hull version rather than only as a variant set at the waterline. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Mamiya was one of the auxiliary vessels of the Imperial Japanese Navy and her task was supplying a force of ships with food. Besides storage spaces and refrigerated chambers she also had facilities on board for processing food, so she could deliver fresh supplies even far from base. That is exactly why she was well known among crews. In design she is a large vessel with a long smooth deck, extensive cargo spaces and handling equipment for transfer at sea. The 1931 form corresponds to the interwar state of the ship, that is before the fittings of vessels began to change with wartime requirements. The vessel therefore shows the fittings of a peacetime auxiliary rather than a wartime one.
First decide whether you are building the full-hull version on a stand or a variant set on a sea surface in a diorama. On the full-hull version, check dry whether the hull parts align along the centerline without a step. The deck is best painted before you fit the superstructures and the equipment onto it. The hull and superstructures want a base color and then thin coats of the top shade, so that the fine relief does not disappear. Adding railings and ladders from photo-etched parts, which are bought separately, raises the credibility markedly. Finally unify the surface with matte varnish and add a restrained wash into the recesses.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
