Kirishima 1915 Painting mask is a set of Kajika masking templates in 1:700 scale for painting a model of the Japanese battlecruiser Kirishima in her 1915 state.

This is an add-on set of masking templates, not a model of the ship. The templates are cut into a self-adhesive masking material and serve to let a modeler separate areas of different color sharply, above all on the decks, where on ships of this era wooden and metal surfaces meet. The set is made by Kajika and is worked out for 1:700 scale, that is, for a model of the battlecruiser Kirishima in her 1915 state.
Kirishima was the fourth unit of the Japanese Kongo class, that is, of the large fast battlecruisers of the close of the era before the First World War. She entered service in 1915 and in this form she still has her original silhouette with tall funnels and without the later superstructures. In the 1930s the ship went through an extensive reconstruction into a fast battleship, so the 1915 configuration differs markedly from her later and far better known wartime appearance. That matters for a modeler: the templates are made for the older form of the deck, not for the Second World War version.
Lay the masking film onto a dry, clean and fully cured finish and press it down so that paint does not flow under the edge. With a thin rounded stick or a toothpick trace the edges and the engraved places. Spray the paint in several very thin coats, as a thick layer peels off with the mask when it is removed. Take the mask off while the paint is only set, with a pull diagonally backward along the surface. You will make the work easier by painting the deck before the installation of the small equipment and the railings.
