The real subject

A meadow roller is a simple towed implement that is taken over meadows and pastures in spring. The heavy cylinder levels molehills, presses lifted turf back down to the ground and smooths the surface so that a mower can pass over it later. It tends to be an inconspicuous piece of farm equipment that stands at the edge of a field or behind a barn out of season as well, and that is exactly why it is a rewarding accessory for rural scenes.

What the set contains

An accessory set for a diorama in 1:72 scale. The parts are not polystyrene, so they are bonded with super glue; ordinary cement for plastic models has no effect on them. Cut off the surplus material with a sharp blade a little away from the part and carefully sand the remainder, so that the mating surfaces stay flat.

Building and painting tips

• Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let them dry.
• Use a base color; without it the shade holds less well on a smooth surface.
• The cylinder looks believable in a weathered metal shade with a hint of rust and with soil caked on underneath.
• Seat the roller in the diorama so that it sinks slightly into the grass; an implement standing cleanly on the surface looks as if it had just been put down.

Who it is for

The set will please builders of rural and field scenes in 1:72 scale, where farm implements belong to a village, and it also suits as a small element in a combat diorama set in the countryside. Paints, glue, a base and grass cover are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
