ADLERANGRIFF — 1:72, Eduard (limited edition, Dual Combo)

A limited edition of kits of the German fighter Messerschmitt Bf 109E in 1:72 scale from Eduard. The name Adlerangriff (Eagle Attack) refers to the opening of the German air offensive over England in August 1940. It is a Dual Combo box, which contains two complete kits, and as a limited edition it adds photo-etched parts, painting masks and resin accessories. A rich choice of marking schemes for aircraft deployed in the Battle of Britain is included.

The real subject

The Messerschmitt Bf 109E, the Emil, was the main single-engine fighter of the Luftwaffe in the opening years of the Second World War. It was powered by the inverted V12 Daimler-Benz DB 601 with fuel injection. The E-1, E-3 and E-4 versions differed above all in armament, from machine guns to 20 mm cannon in the wings. During the Battle of Britain (the summer and autumn of 1940) the Bf 109E provided the fighter escort for German bombers and was the direct opponent of the British Spitfires and Hurricanes.

Building and painting tips

Glue the plastic parts with liquid plastic cement and the resin accessories with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Use a primer before painting. Lay the characteristic German camouflage scheme with its mottling on the fuselage down with an airbrush in layers. Color photo-etched parts raise the detail of the cockpit; painting masks make a sharp outline of the glazing easier. With two kits in the box, a pair of machines in different schemes can be built.
